Handsome designing in ceramics is easier and more exciting when you use liquid mask to define areas.

Left, basic pattern of horse is traced on piece of greenware with pencil.Charcoal bag method can be used (page 133).and charcoal marks will fire out in the kiln.MarieHome is artist on this job.
Use a sable brush and liquid masking material to fill in figure of horse.Let the liquid mask dry for several minutes.
At top right, background was applied— use spray, brush or sponge—with Mayco one-stroke ceramic color.Mask is now peeled off.* leaving clean, contrasting surface.If you have difficulty starting mask to peel, lift one corner with a pin.

Below left, you can further develop your design by outlining and decorating with brush.Plumes for the head can be made with simple brush stroke; use extra color lines to accent and highlight.Center, use sgraffito tool to reveal white clay body by cutting through ceramic color; this gives a fine effect for horse's tail and mane.Brush or spray glaze over entire decorated surface and then fire it.
